Science

photo 2.JPGScience week-3 term-2: Can Popping
Yesterday we had science in Room 16 with ms Green. When we walked in the room I saw a whole bunch of different objects laid across the table. There was a tripod, used soda cans, a small metal net, and methylated spirits. We carefully placed the can on top of the tripod. We put the methylated spirits under the tripod and lit it up. After about 6-7 minutes the water started to boil and also started to sizzle. When It was steaming hot we got ms Green to carefully pick it up with some tongs. When she had a strong grip she quickly dunked to can face down into the bowl of water and ice… POP! The can instantly crunched down until it was nearly completely flat. The reason behind this reaction is that the hot steam left inside the can bursting to come out is getting blocked when it is placed in the ice water. The steam is trapped inside the can as more steam is coming and coming until it pops!
